Repairs
Below are descriptions and starting rates for some of my most common repair services. Please contact me for information and rates on any services not listed that you may be interested in.
Basic Set-Up
Starting at $70
This gets your guitar in its best playable condition without any serious changes. Includes restring, adjustment of neck relief, setting desired action at both nut and bridge, setting intonation, cleaning and oiling fretboard, fret polishing, setting pickup heights, and tightening all bolts and screws.
Fret Level, Crown & Polish
Starting at $130
After years of playing a guitar, strings will often put dents in your frets which can lead to fret buzz or fretting out. This service includes releveling all frets to be the same height, restoring their original shape and polishing, as well as a basic setup.
Custom Bone Nut
Starting at $80
This improves tone transfer for guitars with cheaper plastic nuts or fixes action at the nut if string slots are too low. Includes making, fitting, and polishing a bone nut from scratch. String slot depths can either be set to match your previous nut or new specifications.
Re-Fret
Starting at $300
A level, crown, & polish can solve fret buzz and fretting out, but you can only do that procedure so many times before there is no height left on your frets to achieve a proper crown, which will begin to affect your guitar’s intonation. You may also just want to be able to feel more or less of the fretboard as you play, which can be addressed by installing new frets of a different height. A re-fret includes removing the old frets (and repairing any chips in the fretboard that result), leveling the fretboard, installing the new frets, a level, crown & polish, and a basic setup.
NOTE: Stainless steel frets will increase cost.
Custom Bone Saddle
Starting at $80
This improves tone transfer for acoustic guitars with cheaper plastic saddles and will correct intonation issues if present. Includes making, fitting, and polishing a bone saddle from scratch. A setup can be performed at a discounted rate after fitting new saddle if requested to get your guitar back in best playing condition.
Tuning Machine Installation
Starting at $20
New tuners, especially locking tuners and those with higher gear ratios, will help you stay in tune for longer while playing.
NOTE: Price does not include cost of components, and any hole filling/finish touchup will increase cost.
Headstock Repair
Starting at $100
Depending on the severity of a crack or break in a headstock, it may be possible to reglue and reinforce the broken joint. Instruments need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine if it would be more cost-effective to repair or simply buy a new guitar.
Pickup Installation
Starting at $40
Depending on the woods in your guitar and the style of music you want to play, you may benefit from a new set of pickups that complements these things.
NOTE: Price does not include price of pickups themselves.
Misc. Electronics Work
~$40/hour
This can include pot, switch, or output jack replacement, and a complete rewire of your guitar. Please contact me with a description of the job and I can get you an estimate.
